Courtney Machamer is a contemporary oil painter from Philadelphia. She works as an interior designer professionally, focusing on the curation of spaces, and in her fine art practice, focusing on the experience of space, time and environmental factors. Often drawn to studies of light and atmosphere, Courtney prefers to work with oil paint as an intentional medium that allows change and flexibility.

I paint skyscapes and glimpses of my life in the city, moments that change quickly and never happen in the same way twice. I work in oil paint, leaning into its flexibility by working in multiple short sessions over weeks or months. This allows me time with each piece, to reflect and better capture a moment or feeling. I am inspired by the relentless passage of time. There is an interesting juxtaposition between a fleeting moment and the act of drawing it out, painting it into forever and memorializing it. I like to think of the sky as the perfect example of this temporary constant, never the same way twice, but always there.
